3D Fusion 360 Initials model

M-view Y-view Top-view I chose this reflective red metal to represent my passion but also determination in this new uni life. I want to be as tough and relentless as metal and also shining and passionate. I add a glass material on top of the model to show that remind me of not forgetting what's inside my heart and what's my original dream.

Model focusing on interior (functional)

Overall view View from outside the left side big window Television Art on the wall Bookshelf with books Stairs Light 1 Light 2 Light 3 As I set the two directions, which are functionality and abstract (or outside and inside) in model 4, in this 1:24 model, I focus more on the inside and the functionality. I made this loft kind of room and I tried to create a modern and industrial mood to the room. I chose wood pattern paper and black card to set the colour and texture tone. I made a large window using plastic so the light could fully come in and make the room warm and high-class at the same time. Also, I added bookshelf (plus the two books made with paper on the shelf), stairs, and TV to make the space more realistic, functional and more home feeling. Last but not least, I put artwork on the wall to add more aesthetic feeling to it so that it can be liked by younger people in marketing.

Model focusing on the outside shape (abstract)

This model's direction is the outside abstract so I focus on the overall outside shape of this model. I took the geometric shape further and also made it more controlled and precise. So it turns out that I made this 1:15 sci-fi armor shape model with foam-core and shoot the photo with a futuristic blue light in the background, the reason why I made the scale 1:15 is because I think a large scale can make the shape looks more dramatic. I put the light coming from the left side of the model so that there are some faces are in the dark. It creates this futuristic and interesting mood that could fit into a sci-fi movie or cyberpunk world.

100 words statement

From the first model to the last one, my direction went from making a real living space to exploring the limit and edge between the abstract and functional aspects of the room model. For the abstract direction, I tried to make the outside shape more abstract by folding papers at first and by cutting and sticking the foam-core and balsa wood in the later stage.  For the functional direction, I put many different furniture in the room during the process in different models like beds, desks, bookshelves, and etc. Besides, the light study is also a major factor that I took consideration in my design and model making.  Opening up one side, cutting slots, and using plastic paper are ways I took to let the lights come in. What's more,  geometric shapes also helped with the shadow and mood creating. After this series of model makings, I made abstract and functional rooms and found abstract is also a way to achieve functionality and although they are two extremes, they can exist and coo

Model material on

This is the material I put on the last balsa wood model in Photoshop.

Model made of balsa wood

Top View Detail 1 Detail 2 Detail 3 Sunrise Light Early morning Light 8AM Light 10AM Light Noon Light Afternoon Light Warm Mood Sunrise Light I made this 1:20 room model with balsa wood. I want to create a contrasting feeling between an original and traditional material with the bold shape of the model itself. I cut many geometric shapes out of balsa wood and I also bring back the elements of the slot from model 2's roof and use it as a shadow casting element and support beneath the roof. The shadow casting on the roof by the support looks really great in my opinion. I did the light study and simulated the light from morning sunrise to afternoon as you can see. The window side is the east-facing side and I opened up the other side, which is the west-side open so that I can photograph it easier and people can see the interior and furniture. Speaking of furniture, I put a bed, a table, and stairs in as I want to make the room abstract on the outside but also fu

Model 3 made of foam core and paper

In this 1:12 (In this stage, I still try to make the scale bigger so that it looks more realistic) paper model, I get to know the light study and tried to photograph the effect of the lights. I created the folding walls like the last model and introduced the plastic as the window, which comes back in the sixth model as a big window element. I also make the cuts on the wall to let the light comes in but it doesn't turn out great.

Model 2 made of foam core and paper

In this 1:12 model, I put the slots element in for the first time because I think this would cast a great shadow to the model and I also involved more folding technics to this model to make the whole room more abstract such as the walls and the roof as well. Besides, I made a cabinet with a mirror paper stuck to one of the faces so that the light would reflect in my original thought but it doesn't work at the end as the mirror paper is not reflective enough.

Model 1 made of foam core and paper

In this first week, I started the project with paper and foam-core 1:10 models. I tried to make this room exactly the same layout as the real one and I also put bed and table in to make it functional and this thought impacts the later models deeply. I also used the folding technic and the tabs to make the bed, desk, and stairs (plus the stair element comes back in the sixth model).
